Abstract:
This paper attempts to open up more perspectives on the emerging issue of work family interface. It reviews the relationship between work and family that have been looked at in past research. The paper then delineates a typology from the extant work family literature based on the nature of relationship between work and family. It categorizes them into studies on work family conflict only, work family enrichment only and both work family enrichment and conflict. It draws attention to the fact that the third category needs more attention by researchers and practitioners alike. The paper while providing a synoptic narrative of literature also gives directions for future research in the area and its practical implications.
